Yesterday's Hawker food experience!
Yesterday, I felt like I went on a food journey and experienced authentic Hawker food here in Singapore.
Hawker food centers are a type of local restaurant here in Singapore where different food stalls are combined under one roof. It could be a mix of anything like Chinese food, Indian, Malay, mixed Indian-Muslim food, and also Western food! That's why when I go to a Hawker food center I have a hard time selecting what food to eat because I like all these cuisines. I don't have a strong preference for any of these cuisines but I find that I eat Singapore Chinese food more often.
I proved it yesterday. I was looking at my gallery and I noticed that the pictures of what I ate yesterday were all Chinese food. Let me show you...
Let's begin with a nice plate of Beehoon!
In all the hawker food centers I go to, there is always an Economic Beehoon food stall. This is probably the most affordable and filling food here in Singapore. There's nothing to complain about this food because this stall has all the possible toppings I can think of. I like it when I can mix and match toppings that I can put on my plate.
For this morning, I went for the mix of egg noodles with hor fun coated with dark sauce.
For the toppings, I went for a sunny side egg and stir-fried vegetable okra and eggplant. This is a complete breakfast for me.
On the side is a pickled green chili, to balance the savory meal!
For my lunch, I went for a Teochew-style food!
And since this is one of the most important meals for me, I went for Teochew style rice or porridge food. In some Hawker food centers, they call this stall Mixed Rice food. I'm not sure why but my best guess is that I can pick any dish from an almost endless selection of Chinese food and they will put it on my plate.
Again, the kind of food experience that pleases me... like a buffet!
Whenever I go to this food stall, I usually choose their sweet & sour dish (options are chicken, pork, or fish), and then the stir-fried broccoli is one of my favorites.
And for supper! Seafood Hor Fun!!!
I went for a late-night supper at the Hawker Center near my house. Since it's almost 10:00 PM, my only choice is the Chinese seafood stall. The food at this stall is quite expensive so I rarely eat here. I took their cheapest dish, the Seafood Hor Fun!
It was worth it! The sauce has a subtle flavor and seasoning which is perfect for fish and some big prawns, yum!
