The last time I tried to prepare the crunchy chicken leg pieces I failed in making it. It was around two years ago. The post can be read here regarding the same. Since that day, I had never tried making it at home rather I'd enjoy it outside. But guess what this time my wife wanted to give it a try in making it. I couldn't say no to her and brought every ingredient she requested in making it. At last, it was by far the best crunchy chicken I ever had in my life beating the taste that I had in the KFC outlet here in my country. The reason it tasted very delicious was that more time and effort were spent on preparing it.
Here's the list of ingredients used in making the same dish:
- 1 kg meat consisting of chicken breast, wings and legs.
- Breadcrumbs
- Eggs
- All-purpose flour
- Soya Sauce
- Tomato Ketchup
- Black Pepper Powder
- Cumin Powder
- Salt
- Turmeric
- Chicken Masala
- Red Chili Powder
- Ginger-Garlic Paste
- Oil
- Cold Water
- Baking Powder
Step-by-Step Cooking Process
- The first step was marinating the chicken. My wife combined the fresh chicken meat consisting of wings, legs, and breast with soya sauce, ketchup, salt, turmeric, cumin powder, ginger-garlic paste, chicken masala, black pepper powder, and chili powder.
- After combining all the ingredients and stirring it with meat for some time we pierced the meat with the help of a sharp toothpick to create many holes. One can also use a sharp needle or pin or fork. Doing so will allow the marinated spices to penetrate deeper into the meat making it tastier. The meat was then left in the refrigerator for about 7 hours to ensure the spices is soaked up in every direction and to stop growth of bacteria living inside the meat.
- In a separate dish and plate, we took a little bit all-purpose flour and the bread crumbs. The flour was combined with little bit salt and turmeric powder.
- Each piece of marinated chicken was first coated with the flour then dipped into a cold water.
- Again the chicken was coated with flour after taking out from water. After that it was again coated with egg and then finally with the breadcrumbs.
- The coated chicken was then deep fried in oil. Here we used sunflower oil.
- It was not as expected at first because we poured the coated chicken while the oil was under hot flame. It should have been placed while the oil was under medium flame.
- We did what was required to do for the chicken legpiece and the result was as per our expectation. We were finally able to make crunchy fried chicken. Under medium flame, we let it cook for 15 minutes. It was time consuming but worth the taste.
- The wings and breast also turned out to be as per our expectation. Due to the huge efforts, the taste was unbelievable and everybody in our home enjoyed eating it.
- My wife scooping a vanilla ice-cream for me. We had it at last because it is a good summer appetizer.
