Do you dare to try the squid shot?
It’s not Thailand if not without some “exotic” foods. However, some of these exotic foods have a history dating back to the early 20th century. But there are also food that exist just because, such as these alive squid eating that is served with hot sauce. In Thailand this special dish is called Squid Shot. It is definitely for those who are not afraid of getting sick and is into some interesting adventures.
The seller would typically catch the squid alive and then hand it over to the customer who then would chew them alive. Their mouth would be covered in black from the squid ink and they are required to get the shot of hot sauce or sauce of choice. This attracts many people to watch especially when it’s exotic for some people including myself. I would definitely not dare eat them alive. But as you can see on those pictures, they guy did it!
That was quite a thing in Jodd Fairs and in that night market, it’s known for its plentiful seafood options that you can do. However when I asked some people at the hostels, they were telling me that they didn’t have the best time eating seafood there. I personally tried some and they were alright to me. The squid in the night market has many options such as the squid body, squid egg and even the chin of squid. I was honestly surprised that they were able to sell all these varieties while back home, squid is just a squid.
Another thing that I tried at the market was this scallops with cheese that cost 29 BAHT. I got 2 of them and was very satisfied with the taste. It took a bit of time waiting for it but I have to say, it was worth the wait.
