Hey Hive!
Now that a lot of people here have already gotten vaccinated, I'm very happy to hear that Singapore is now allowing in-house dining again but obviously you have to be vaccinated. But since there aren't any restrictions this allows us to try out different food places again!
We had an overseas friend come visit us a few months ago and we brought him to visit a few places and just hang out with us since it had been a few years since we last met in person, especially with covid and everything. It was fun catching up and playing games together again though!
So we brought him to this mall in Singapore called Suntec City and took him to one of our favourite mazesoba restaurants! He's also a big fan of Japan and all things Japanese (I'd say he's a super huge weeb too) so of course we'd bring him to one of our favourite Japanese places!
The restaurant is called Kokoro, and they specialise in mazesoba (which is a dry noodle with a bit of gravy and seasoning), but they also have ramen and a few rice bowls as well.
I have actually written about this place before the first time we tried it (which you can check out here), and it was really tasty! We enjoyed it so much and this is now my go-to place for mazesoba in Singapore if the mood strikes me. The price is also pretty reasonable, and the taste is quite legitimate to what we ate in Tokyo although still a little different.
It is really delicious though and it even got the seal of approval from our weeb friend so we know it's legit. And it was a very enjoyable meal for sure! We walked around the mall for a bit digesting our food before we decided to relax and find some dessert (after a tiring game of DDR in the arcade)!
We were at the basement of the mall and our friend who is a sort of tea connoisseur saw this matcha cafe and was intrigued. We'd never tried it before since we're not big matcha fans but have passed by this cafe multiple times so we decided to try it out.
The cafe is called Maccha House and has a pretty nice view of the Fountain of Wealth, which is a huge fountain at the heart of Suntec City! It's a symbol of wealth and life and is also the largest fountain in the world!

Unfortunately the tables near the edge of the fountain were all taken but we didn't mind. We were served pretty quickly and shown to a table near the little bar counter inside the cafe.
The cafe was a little quaint, and it looked better from the other side than actually in here since the bar counter looked quite remedial and there were some messy boxes around on the floor that we could see. It seemed a little more run-down than we anticipated but it was still a nice spacious and bright area to relax in I suppose.
As expected of a cafe called Maccha House, the whole menu features items that contain matcha in some form or another, such as various matcha drinks like lattes and floats and of course a traditional tea set.
They also had a number of matcha desserts lie tiramisu, pudding, mochi and a crepe layer cake!
I would've liked to try the cake but unfortunately they were unavailable so we decided to share the Warabi Mochi Maccha Tiramisu instead! It looked pretty cute since it looked like grass in a wooden box. Our friend ordered the Maccha Latte.
I'm not too sure why they spell it Maccha when the correct spelling is matcha; it was a little odd to me but I guess it must've been a branding thing. After about 10 minutes or so our order arrived!
Our order came with a cup of tea but I don't think it was matcha green tea since it wasn't green. We thought it was a little weird since everything else was matcha, but I guess they leave the good stuff for people who actually order matcha green tea.
At least our order of tiramisu looked exactly like it does on the menu though! It looked just like a box of grass with mochi on top! It actually looks really cute and we could definitely smell the strong aroma of matcha.
Since we're not huge matcha fans I'm glad the inside of the tiramisu was actually quite light! Only the top had matcha while the middle was this soy-tasting cake. It was a little unexpected but quite pleasing nonetheless.
The matcha layer was only on the top of the cake so it wasn't too overpowering and I actually enjoyed the rest of the cake. It was moist, fluffy and refreshing in a sense? It had a nice texture that was quite smooth too almost like pudding but still a cake.
We all had a taste and it was very enjoyable. It wasn't a big or tall cake but with the fluffiness it was a little deeper than I expected. The mochi was definitely concentrated with matcha but the cake complemented it well. I kinda used it to mask the matcha taste a little since the mochi was too much for me.
Unfortunately our friend didn't enjoy the Maccha Latte as much; he said it tasted quite bland and probably wasn't authentic which was a little disappointing. But then again this place was called Maccha House; if they couldn't even spell Matcha right I'm not sure how legit this is.
Overall I thought the dessert was quite nice though, and it managed to appeal to even non-matcha lovers so I guess they did something right. Maybe their desserts are better than the drinks? If you're a big fan of matcha I probably wouldn't recommend this place though since there are probably better places around. It was still a nice new experience at least.
Thanks so much for reading!
