Travel Back In Time to My Favorite Childhood Book | Day 11 of 30-DAY #BLOGGING CHALLENGE | [ENG/SPAN] - Part 1

It's sad to say that the memory of my childhood before entry into elementary grade is a bit fuzzy. Since adulthood, I've never understood why I can't remember specifics of my activities before I attended school.

Once I started school, I was like a sponge trying to absorb all the information I could. I do remember my favorite place in school -- the library. My family couldn't afford to maintain many books at home for our reading pleasure.

So library time at school was one of my favorite periods. There I would head straight to the series section and look for A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L'Engle.

A Wrinkle In Time is my favorite and the first of the books in a series which became known as the Time Quintet. The series included four other books which. The concept of the phrase ""it was a dark and stormy night" remained with me throughout my school years.

I imagined myself in the role of the heroine encountering evil and different the mysteries to be solved. I would think of how I would do things differently and what the outcome would be. Meg's adventures spurred my writing. I'd find myself writing short stories based upon her circumstances.

The characters in the first book of the series, Meg Murry an her little brother go on an adventure to outer space to find their father. He's a scientist. I just love the three female companions who traveled with them providing different types of knowledge and insight: Mrs. Who, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Whatsif.

If you answered those questions throughout the series, you were on your way to discovering many new wonders. The main concept, though, I took away from the entire series was the urge to be independent in my thinking and actions. The second theme was friendship and the good versus evil concept.

The books in this series garnered my inquisitiveness and encouraged my love for reading.

Even at a young age, I've been fascinated with science fiction, Greek mythology, and history. The series spurred my imagination of other worlds and the possibilities of life beyond surroundings.

Like many of the books during that era, though, they have been placed on the ban list. This didn't deter me from purchasing the set for my children to enjoy.
