Moving on from Lionel Richie we now find ourselves at slot #89 and one of the classiest acts to come out of the 1980’s in my opinion.
Sade, pronounce Sha-day had a monster debut album Diamond Life which I am sure we will find somewhere further down the countdown (well I hope so anyway).
The album Promise released in November 1985 sold over 4.6 million copies despite not having any number one hit singles.
Smooth Operator epitomized Sade’s silky smooth style on her debut album and The Sweetest Taboo did the same from the album Promises. It stayed on the billboard 100 for 6 months
The Sweetest Taboo
The only other single from the chart which was successful without making the Top 20 was the funky Never as good as the First Time
Never as Good as the First Time
Despite there being more hit singles from the album there were a couple of tracks which became firm radio favorites…. Tar Baby and Is It a Crime
Throughout the album , at all times is Sade’s signature style; cool yet intense…. Emotional without displaying emotion (if that makes sense) . In my opinion a real class act no matter whether you appreciate her brand of music or not
Tar Baby
How awesome is the subtle session backing instruments …. complements without distracting from the singer. Love this track purely for the music.
As always, thanks for stopping by and your support is fully appreciated
