Here's my selection of music to share with you today. As usual, we have a variety of styles, all things that I enjoy listening to from time to time.
One of my purposes in sharing songs is to expand your musical experience just a little - I think today's selection is likely to do this.
First one is a cool collaboration. Did you know Jon Bon Jovi could do Country Western?
Chris Le Doux & Jon Bon Jovi - Bang a Drum (1998)
I've previously featured Chris Le Doux as a genuine Wyoming cowboy singer. But this song was a surprise for me when I came across it the first time - and quickly became one of my favorites. I love it when singers can put aside their differences and work together to make a new hit, which this one really is.
So, although this song feature Chris a bit more than Jon, I like to think that it also shows that Jon Bon Jovi is a pretty awesome guy to work with Chris like this.
Two non-English features today. The first is one of my favorite joikers.
Sofia Jannok - Árvas (Sámi)
I featured this artist previously in my Joik Musical Foray - she is one of my favorite joikers.
I'm pretty sure she's singing in Sámi, the native languages of the Sámi peoples of Northern Sweden, Finland and Norway. However, as joiking is more about sound than actual words, the language is less important than it would be with another type of music.
The second non-English feature today is one are two of my favorite Celtic voices...
Julie Fowlis & Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh - Tha'm buntáta mór / An Bairille / Boc liath nan gobhar (Gaelic)
I love both of these artists very much. They have a way of stirring the Celtic roots of the blood - regardless of whether you have any Celtic ancestry or not. It brings you back to a time long past, but revived in the modern age.
Both singers have excellent skills on the flute, tin whistle and recorder as well.
