After the last few artists I am relieved to come across another rock musician, despite this being more of a ‘crooning’ rocker. Having established himself in the 1970’s as one of the top midland America’s rockers, this album released in February of 1980 was a more reflective Bob Seger
(Now how is THAT pic for click bait?? LOL )
In slot #84 is Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band with their album Against The Wind which sold 5 million copies and featured three US single hits, the first being Fire Lake which peaked at number 6
The album starts with an up tempo number The Horizontal Bop which I include only for the excellent instrumentation in the middle part of the track.
Truly weird …..
The biggest hit from the album was the title track Against the Wind and this is a more true reflection of the Bob Seger sound; when he is not belting out true rock.
The keyboards at the start reminds me of Bruce Hornsby and The Range. Useless info I know
And the years rolled slowly past
And I found myself alone
Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends
I found myself further and further from my home
And I guess I lost my way
There were oh so many roads
I was living to run and running to live
Never worried about paying or even how much I owed
Moving eight miles a minute for months at a time
Breaking all of the rules that would bend
I began to find myself searchin'
Searchin' for shelter again and again
Against the wind
A little something against the wind
I found myself seeking shelter against the wind

Amazingly, this album won a Grammy for Best Performance by Band with vocals {huh?}. To my mind, besides the title track this is not a vintage Bob Seger and if this is the first you hear of his music, I doubt there would be much incentive to explore further. To make my point I include one of his 70’s hits … from one of my all time favorite vinyls.
Bo Diddley / Who Do You Love
An improvement (although slight ) on the past few artists …. Although Tina may not agree !!
As always, thanks for stopping by and your support is fully appreciated
