This week's Monster we have our focus on is none other than one of, I would dare say, most often played Monsters from the Earth Splinter, namely the Regal Peryton. This is due to the fact that it synergizes beautifully with Obsidian, as it is a Magic attacker, but maybe more so due to the fact that it has a very high speed and flying, which makes it really hard to hit by melee and ranged (non-magic) attacks.
Now before we get into the stats discussion of the Regal Peryton, let's have a sneak peek into its LORE
So, the Regal Peryton seems to be a very noble creature, ready to aid anyone in distress. That's not very often seen in Praetoria these days.
Alright, we've got some idea of what a Regal Peryton is, after glancing at its lore. Let us have a look at its stats and abilities at different key levels now.
- The Regal Peryton is a Rare Monster. At level 1 it has 1 Magic Attack, 5 Speed, 0 Armor and 6 Health but most importantly, as mentioned in the intro, it starts off with the Flying ability (has an increased chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks from Monsters who do not have the Flying ability). This ability paired with the Monster's very high Speed sometimes can decide the outcome of an battle by just triggering a few evasions in a row.
- At level 3 it gains an additional point in the Magic department for a total of +2 Magic Attack.
- At level 7 it gains an additional point in Speed on top of the +1 Speed it gains at level 2 for a total of 7! Base Speed of 7 is really something special, lol.
- Finally, maxed out at level 8 it has 3 Magic Attack, 7 speed, and 8 health. As you might have noticed it does not have any other abilities but Flying. But does it really need any other abilities if it has Flying and 7 Speed, I don't really think it does, especially for its moderate cost of 5 Mana.
Now that we know what the card does (or doesn't do) at the different levels of play, let us have a look at the battle I have chosen to showcase.
<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>BATTLE<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>
- The line-up of the Battle and the Ruleset:
The ruleset for this battle is Silenced Summoners (Summoners do not give any stat buffs or debuffs or grant/use any abilities). The Mana budget is 26, and only the Water Splinter is not available for play. I have decided to showcase a battle from a recent Gold league level tourney, so in this particular instance I'll include the Regal Peryton in a Dragon Splinter line-up, instead of an Earth one. Using Obsidian would not make any difference either since she is silenced due to the ruleset.
I'm feeling a bit adventurous this time around, besides the Mana budget is tight, so I'll use Void Dragon as my main tank. The Void Dragon is a definite expert at dodging stuff. It is so good sometimes that I think it even surprises itself with how good it is. We'll see how things work out.
Following immediately after the Void Dragon is the Fungus Fiend. Fiends are normally used at the back of the line-up to protect against Sneak but now I use it as a filler behind the tank just in case the tank's evading skills fail it quickly this battle.
The 3rd place in the line-up goes to our protagonist - the Regal Peryton. I've got it in this place so it can also show how good it is at evading stuff and who knows... it might actually outshine the Void Dragon.
The 4th spot is for the Goblin Psychic. It is a truly potent Monster with its Tank Heal, Affliction and Silence abilities. I love using it whenever I can as long as it makes sense of course, and it usually does.
5th in the line-up is the the Acid Shooter. The whole point of including it in the line-up at all is just as a 2-mana filler Monster with a good amount of health. I just need it to take a hit or two if it gets to that, of course doing some damage with its 2 Ranged Attack is also an added bonus I won't turn down.
Last but definitely not least is Iza The Fanged. I've got her in this spot cause she has the Scavenger ability, so I am hoping that will help with her survivability against any potential Sneak Monsters. Her Stun can also definitely come in handy. Also remember that I'm working with a tight budget so there aren't that many other decent options.
It is time for a quick round by round analysis:
- The Summoner I am going with for the battle is Quix. The Summoners in this battle only matter as long as they have different mana cost, and to determine which Splinter the players will play with, since their abilities are silenced. Funnily enough my opponent has also chosen to roll with a level 3 Quix so we'll have a Dragon Splinter vs Dragon Splinter battle.
- After 1 round, the Fungus fiends on both sides have fallen prey to the Sneak and Opportunity abilities on both sides. It seems my opponent had the same idea as me as far as main tanks go, so there is a Void Dragon face-off in the middle of the battlefield. Mine is at full health due to the fact that it is supported by the Goblin Psychic.
- Round 3 begins with both main tanks still alive. I have lost my Acid Shooter to the enemy Opportunity duo, while Iza the Fanged has been chipping away at the health of the enemy back-line.
- It's Round 4 and the two dragons are still engaged in a fearsome battle while the back-lines of both teams are exchanging blows. My Goblin Psychic is on the verge of dying and so is the enemy Venari Scout.
- Round 5 is here and things still seem very, very close. I can't really tell who has the upper hand at this stage of the battle.
- Round 6 - so my Void Dragon has fallen before the one of the enemy. It's all up to my Regal Peryton and its agility and also we should not forget about Iza and her Stuns.
- Round 7 is here and it seems my Regal Peryton has successfully dodged both attacks of the enemy Carnage Titan since it has taken only 1 point of damage last round. The enemy Void Dragon is close to dying at this point but it might also keep evading both Magic and Ranged attacks so we'll see how that goes.
- It's Round 8 already and it seems the Void Dragon has managed to stay elusive as far as Iza's attacks go but it has taken 1 point of damage from my Regal Peryton. The enemy Carnage Titan has again failed to hit its target both times which is great news of course.
- Round 9 - the Void Dragon has finally fallen and the Carnage Titan has been stunned by Iza. Can she keep up the good Stun work while the Regal Peryton does a total of 8 damage so the Carnage Titan falls. It's getting pretty exciting - I won't lie.
- Round 10 is here and the Carnage Titan is stunned again, lol! Can Iza keep it up?!
- Round 11 - another round, another stunned Carnage Titan, this might as well be Iza's luckiest day, not to mention the one of the Regal Peryton as all the work it has to do is to just do 2 Magic damage to the Titan. It does not even have to worry about dodging the titanic claws of the enemy.
- It's Round 12, and the Carnage Titan seems to be perma-stunned by Iza. This will seal the deal in our favor. This was definitely a very fun battle to behold, as long as you are on the winning side that is..
The Regal Peryton is a great Magic Attack Monster for the Earth Splinter. It can also do pretty well in the tank position if needed. It is really suitable for low to moderate mana cost battles. The Regal Peryton is currently valued at $0.32 per BCX, which is actually a fair price for such a potent Rare Monster. I would definitely include it in my must-buy list if I did not have it already.
