Here's my selection of music to share with you today. As usual, we have a variety of styles, all things that I enjoy listening to from time to time.
Today, we begin back in the 1980s in Canada. With a bunch of strange songs and stranger videos, it's hard to go too far wrong with this one...
Men Without Hats - Pop Goes the World (1987)
It was either this or The Safety Dance... today, this one won out with the cheerful tones which I need today. I was surprised to see that while it reached no. 2 in Canada (and Sweden) - and no. 1 in Austra, it only reached no. 20 in the USA. What was wrong with us to miss such a great hit!
Interestingly, the group is still together and touring as recently as 2016. Read more on Wikipedia
Wham - Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go (1984)
I'm not a huge fan of either George Michael or Wham!, but this song always got me moving and made me think of the best parts of the 80s (and the 50s & 60s - George Michael's intention).
With such a catchy tune, fun video and everything that makes a great song, it's no surprise that this one hit no. 1 in many countries including the US and UK, reaching Platinum level in many countries as well.
Read more about the song on Wikipedia and more about Wham!
Wayra - Heal the World
Jaime Rodriguez, known as Wayra, brings Incan flute music to us via YouTube. (And apparently - according to his ancient web site - tours as well.) His music is very calming and soothing - useful when modern life is just too much - which seems to be the case more and more these days.
